This is our first experience with this many chicks. When we put them out in the brooder it was nice and warm. We considered putting two heat lamps in with them but having a brooder too hot isn't good as they can huddle in the cooler areas. Well, last night it got cool. They huddled under the light and one little guy (or gal) got huddled to death. So, this morning I set up a 100 watt light bulb in another area so it's warm but not as hot as under the brooder lamp. sigh.... sadly, sometimes our learning experiences can be harmful to others..... RIP little chick :(
On a brighter note, they are fluttering around the brooder now, happy to have a little extra heat.

A number of years back my close friend died from heart failure, the immediate results of an untreated strep infection. Then, final spring, my sister went into poisonous shock/sepsis from the neglected strep throat. She approximately died. Multiple organs failing...it was terrible. She was in intense care for a week.
