A Small Homestead

Welcome to my blog about our adventures on and away from our modest family homestead. We are a young family trying to raise as much of our own food as possible and still enjoy life while holding down full time jobs and work two small home based businesses. Life can get hectic and challenging but at the end of the day we have most importantly each other, good food on our table and a roof over our heads.

Without Snow Winter is BORING!

I know, I know, everyone "hates" snow.  But without snow winter is boring!

This winter has had its share of snow storms but a day or so later it rains and the snow is gone or at the least ruined.  The only thing that makes moving it from the driveway worth the time and effort is the hope that you will also get to enjoy it once the clearing is done.

Sadly, there hasn't been a lot of snowmobiling going on.  Very frustrating since it costs a pretty penny to get them legal for the trails (registration, permits, insurance....).  It makes me think ahead to next season, wondering if we should be making the investment into something that we may or may not get to enjoy.....  I guess we will make that decision when the time comes.  For now we will watch the forecast, hoping for enough snow for another run on our next weekend off.

We also enjoy ice fishing/smelt fishing.  Yet another winter activity we have been unable to do.  The ice has been unsafe for most of the winter.

So, in my humble opinion, without snow and ice....winter is boring!

'til next time!!
